NYC Voyage with Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan

Photo via Facebook

On Saturday, September 30, 2017, I attended the NYC Voyage with Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan.  Caitriona and Sam star in the Starz television series Outlander.  The special event, held at the Papillon Bistro Restaurant in New York City, raised money for their chosen charities.  Caitriona is the Patron of World Child Cancer.  Sam is the charity ambassador of Cahonas Scotland.  I attended the Outlander in the City event in June, and was very excited when I saw the email announcing this September event.

I had the opportunity to meet Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, I’ve never meet either before September. I’ll be honest, I froze when I met both of them.  I was so impressed with how kind, generous, and genuine they both were to their fans.

I did manage to remember to tell Caitriona thank you for everything she does for the fans, and that I was part of the Cooklander Cookbook Committee.  She was really lovely to talk to, and was very thankful for all the hard work the fans do on their behalf for their charities.

I happened to be the last person in the last group to meet Sam.  The bodyguard had to remind me that it was my turn.  Embarrassed, I said, “Shit! Sorry!”  PR Girl turned Fan Girl Fail.

Although, the PR Girl/Celebrity Handler part of me was pleased he was able to get something to drink. I guess I was too busy watching the handler and bodyguard interaction with Sam and the fans.  The bodyguards, Andrew and Patrick, did a great job! I believe I told Sam it was nice to meet him.  He liked my plaid phone case. I said, “Thank you!” The best $9.95 purchase I’ve ever made.  When I met Richard Rankin in June, he liked it too.

I felt honored to meet the representatives from both charities.  Ritchie Marshall flew from Glasgow to attend the event for Cahonas Scotland. The charity raises awareness of male cancer. Ritchie wore his kilt made with the official Cahonas Scotland tartan.

Lisa Fernandes arrived in New York City from London to represent World Child Cancer.  We talked about the resources that families have in Jacksonville, FL.  We are very fortunate to have Nemours Children’s Health System and Mayo Clinic in our community.  I can’t imagine being the parent of a child in a developing country without access to healthcare.

Over $33,000 was raised for Cahonas Scotland and World Child Cancer.  Attendees had the chance to buy raffle tickets, and bid on silent auction items.  The Cooklander Cookbook looked beautiful in the Cooking raffle basket.

Over the weekend, I met Outlander fans and My Peak Challenge participants from all over the United States and the world.  I was just as excited to meet amazing friends from California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, China, and Japan as I was to meet Caitriona and Sam.  Friday night, we celebrated birthdays of four friends at Patsy’s Restaurant.

After dinner, we made our way to The Skylark.

On Saturday, Sylvia Ederer organized a beautiful walk for My Peak Challenge participants through Central Park.  I have always been inspired by the Peakers in this community, but it was so energizing to meet in person and hear stories of their journeys and accomplishments.  I loved hearing about the first My Peak Challenge Member Gathering in Scotland that also took place in September.

I departed New York City on Sunday after the event. When I began percolating about the evening throughout the week, I wasn’t surprised that I froze when I met them.  Though I’m positive my musings about Preschool, PTA, shopping trips to Publix, and family medical problems are riveting, I don’t think they would have been appropriate ice breakers.

I’ve been watching Outlander since its premiere in August of 2014.  I read books one through three prior to watching the show.  Obviously, I started a blog.  I think about a quote from a Beau Taplin book, Hunting Season, when I think about Caitriona and Sam.  Full disclosure, I haven’t read any of Taplin’s works of poetry in full, but this quote stands out to me.  I could focus on the sad portion of the quote, but I focus on the positive message.  How amazing is it that these two actors have started a fire in so many people? I was thrilled to have the unique opportunity to meet them.

The organizers of the event did an outstanding job! Thank you very much Bonnie Terbush, Outlander Homepage, Liz Mercado Associates, and Outlander Forever for all of your dedication. You created an unforgettable evening.

Barbour The Shirt Department

As I was scrolling through Twitter this morning, I clicked on the Barbour web site link in their tweet about The Shirt Department.  Barbour is a “120 year old brand defining the essence of true British style.” I noticed the paragraph starting with, “Inspired by Barbour’s countryside credentials since 1894…”, naturally the phrase, “Inspired by” grabbed my attention.  Full disclosure, the paragraph wasn’t the first thing I noticed.  Sam Heughan is Barbour’s Global Brand Ambassador.

The Barbour Blog is very informative.  I did actually read the entire post, “Introducing the New SS17 Shirt Department” as well as other posts that didn’t mention Sam Heughan.  Barbour is the Platium Sponsor of the 2017 Tartan Day Parade in New York City.  I marched in the parade in 2016.  I know the parade will be a success with Barbour providing clothing, accessories, and dog accessories.

Burns Night Supper for Bloodwise

I’ve been blogging about the show Outlander and its stars for over two years.  In the process, I have learned more about Scotland and Scottish culture.  Wednesday, January 25th is the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns.  Burns Night is a celebration of the poet and lyricist.  A traditional supper includes haggis, tatties, neeps, and a dram of Scotch whisky. (Tatties=mashed potatoes, neep=turnip)  For this Florida girl, haggis is a foreign concept.

I’m part of the committee that published the cookbook Cooklander To The Stove.  This wonderful book is a collection of 550 recipes submitted by fans and friends of the show Outlander.  Originally, a recipe for haggis wasn’t included among the hundreds of recipes submitted. I am now dubbed “Haggis Hunter” by fellow committee members because all of the haggis recipes, with the exception of the Vegetarian Haggis, are the product of my extensive search.  I must admit to becoming strangely curious about haggis the more I looked into how I would find a recipe.  Below is the story of my search for the elusive haggis, found on page 323 of the cookbook.

cooklanderbanner

Hunting for Haggis

1 haggis

A wee bit elusive

The Cookbook Committee received recipes from all over the world, however two weeks prior to the target date to go to print, we still hadn’t received a recipe for haggis.

Haggis is not an animal.  It is actually made from the innards of a sheep, oatmeal, suet, herbs and spices cooked in a sheep’s stomach.  I messaged a friend from Glasgow and a friend of a friend living in Tampa from Edinburgh.  One reply stated, “In Scotland, people usually buy the haggis ready to go as it is made from all the leftover parts that aren’t used after the slaughter.”  Hmmm…where would a Florida girl buy haggis?  I Googled, and was amazed at what I found.  I read a very interesting article published in “The Guardian” on January 22, 2015 by Adam Gabbatt entitled “The hunt for black market haggis”, http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/jan/22/-sp-the-hunt-for-black-market-haggis-us-burns-night.  My mind reeled at the implications of a ban on importing the sheep’s lung, a crucial ingredient in a traditional haggis, in the United States.  Haggis can be purchased on www.amazon.com in the US, however, substitutions have been made for the sheep lung.  Americans can also buy haggis in a can at local Scottish festivals.  I couldn’t believe my own eyes when I saw the cans at the Lannadoo Celtic Festival in NE FL.

In my quest, I posted on Twitter and Facebook.  I called, texted, and emailed every chef or restaurant owner I know.  I may have even tagged a certain actor from Scotland in tweets enlisting his help.  I knew I was getting desperate when I asked a friend who owns a restaurant that specializes in Baha Mexicana for a recipe for haggis. I might have even promised to make haggis, taste it, and to organize a skirling salute complete with pipe band if I received a recipe.

A fan sent me two recipes for haggis which appear in this cookbook.  One recipe came from “A Little Scottish Cookbook”, by Paul Harris.  Harris’ book is listed in Diana Gabaldon’s bibliography in “Outlandish Companion.” The recipe’s directions include, “Boil the heart, liver, and lung till tender, hanging windpipe out over the edge of pan so that it drains into a bowl.”  One recipe from the book, “Cooking with Elizabeth Craig”, states, “After cooking, haggis can be hung in a cool dry place until required.  When wanted, boil up again.”  Perhaps my declaration to prepare haggis was premature.  I’ll be honest, I can count on one hand the people for whom I would be willing to make and taste haggis.

When followed on Twitter by Haggis Society, I knew I had officially made it to the big time of haggis circles!  I followed back, however, I’m fairly certain this is a parody account.  As I said, haggis isn’t an animal, and there really isn’t an official hunting season.

I hope you enjoy all the recipes in this cookbook, especially the haggis.  When in doubt, more whisky is always the answer.

In November 2015, I tried haggis for the first time at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival.  I can honestly say I enjoyed this Americanized version.  It tasted like liver and oats. Glenfiddich whisky was also available at the pavillion, I would highly recommend.

IMG_4847

In January 2016, to celebrate Burns Night, I decided to be brave and attempt to make haggis.  I figured the Vegetarian Haggis recipe would be the best way to go for my first attempt.  I used the recipe on page 167 of the Cooklander To The Stove cookbook.  I made dinner for friends and they said, “It was quite tasty, even without the stuff.”

People are People

By day, I teach two year olds. Friday marked the last day of school.  As I was packing up my classroom, I was thinking about the other jobs I have held.  I haven’t always spent my days singing Wheels on the Bus and helping children learn to play nicely with others.  In my past life, I worked at The Spa at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, and currently moonlight as a consultant at a local PR company. In both of these situations, I have had the opportunity to meet professional athletes, politicians, and people I consider celebrities.  I have learned from these encounters that celebrities are real people.  I am very grateful for that fact as I have had my fair share of “open mouth insert foot moments.”

I worked at The Spa on and off for 11 years, and wore many hats.  I was a receptionist, locker room attendant, served mimosas and wine spritzers, trained new employees, and worked as group coordinator when large groups came into The Spa.  I moved up to the management team, and was the Front Desk Manager. One Sunday, I was the only manager in the building, and answered the phone at the front desk.  Here’s the phone conversation:

Me: Spa Ponte Vedra, this is Jenny, how may I help you?

Client: Do you have any openings for a shampoo and blow dry?

Me: I’m sorry, we are fully booked.  May I add your name to the wait list?

Client: Yes, please.

Me: Last name?

Client: Bush

Me: First name?

Client: Barbara

Me: As in George Bush?

Client: That’s right!

Me: I will call you as soon as there is an opening.

Needless to say, Former First Lady Barbara Bush came into The Spa that afternoon for her hair appointment. Secret Service came in prior to her appointment so that I could be vetted.  I felt funny charging her for her service, but company policy stated we treat VIPs the same way you would treat anyone else.  Asking for a photograph or an autograph was definitely out of the question. She was so gracious and very nice.

I am no longer on the payroll, but would highly recommend vacationing at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.  Relaxation, privacy, fine dining, and magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean are guaranteed.  On a side note, I also worked at The Gym on property.  Again, front desk, I handed out towels.  I was a trainer for a few days at the gym.   I trained employees on the new computer booking system.

My most recent embarrassing moment occurred at a Silent Auction fundraiser at the school where I currently teach.  Have you ever played the telephone game as a child?  The following events remind me of playing that game.

One of my parents donated a four course meal to the auction.  I knew that he was from New York, and that he was a celebrity chef.  The piece of information I was missing was the name of the celebrity.  While I was volunteering at the event, the chef and his wife came over to say hello, and thank me for everything I was doing for their child.  Here is a snippet of that conversation.

Me:  You’re welcome! Thank you for donating to the auction! Oh!  Next week, I want to ask you about New York.  I have my flight, but wanted to ask you about where to stay, etc…

Him:  What are you going to do while you are there?

Me: I’m going to the NYC Tartan Day Parade. (My last name is McAfee, they didn’t question why I was going.)

At this point, they start talking to me about Matt Lauer.  In my head, I’m thinking, they must really like Matt Lauer.

Both: We can hook you up with Matt Lauer.  You can walk down the parade route with

Matt.

Me: I don’t care about Matt Lauer.  If you really want to hook me up with someone…

(Insert conversation about Sam Heughan, Outlander, and Starz)

I finish my shift selling gift cards, and finally have a chance to look at all the auction items.  Sipping a glass of wine, I discover the item donated by the parent.  The description of the meal included a wonderful bio describing him as Matt Lauer’s former personal chef.

Fast forward to the end of the evening, I am behind the check-out table.  My favorite parents come to say good night.

Me: I owe you an apology.  I am so sorry!  I would love to meet Matt Lauer!

Both: Start laughing

My co-teacher still giggles about my conversation.  PR gal tuned fangirl fail.  The sweet Mom and Dad were genuinely interested in my New York trip.

IMG_6040 (2)

After I told them about my adventure, they shook their heads, and joked, “My child is in your class.” Not to worry, I have my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.  I’m certified by the state of Florida to mold young minds.  Stay tuned for more news about this talented chef.  He is opening a restaurant in Neptune Beach, FL this summer.

Those awkward slip ups aren’t the norm for me.  I have actually been described as “most professional”.  I’m able to do PR work during events and shows when school is not in session.  I’ve never been to a Comic-Con or any Con, but I have worked as a “celebrity handler”.  The Home and Patio Show and the Southern Women’s Show come to the Prime Osborn Convention Center in Jacksonville in the spring and in the fall, and feature a celebrity guest.  In between their scheduled speaking times, they go off stage and into a different room.  This is where I came into the picture.  If they needed anything, I made sure they had whatever they needed.  Whether it was a bottle of water, lunch, a picture taken, or a Sharpie, I made it happen.  I researched plane tickets taking into account when some needed to fly “first class because I have long legs, and need more leg room.”  Easy enough.  I respected their privacy, and took my cues from them.  I’ve met John Gidding, Peter Walsh, Angelo Surmelis, Matt Muenster, and Joey Fatone.  All were incredibly nice, very talented, and unique.  Some wanted to talk to me and others working with the show, and some wanted to quietly read a book in between their scheduled speaking times.  I admit to fangirling a little bit about Joey Fatone.

IMG_6828 (2)

IMG_6833 (2)

One of them even took me and my children into the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios with him and his VIP guide.  He was presenting at the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.  Have you seen the VIP guides on Disney property? In Florida, they wear a plaid vest.  The children and I had so much fun!  My nine year old daughter now thinks that every time we go to Disney we will have a VIP guide.

In addition to the Home and Patio Show and Southern Women’s Show, I’ve been involved with Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus, Disney on Ice, and the Monster Truck Show.  In Birmingham, Alabama, I met James Spann.  He’s a weatherman, and a celebrity in his own right.  He was doing live shots from the rink at Disney on Ice, and children were lined up to get his autograph as well as those of the Disney princesses.

IMG_5332 (2)

I was thrilled to get an “elphie” with this beautiful girl.  She is enjoying her retirement with all of her elephant friends in sunny Florida.

Jacksonville, Florida is home to the Jacksonville Jaguars football team.  I met players and their wives while working at The Spa.  Some of the children of the players go the school where I teach.  Jacksonville also hosted the Super Bowl in 2005, and there were several parties and functions.  I worked at one of the parties, one of those “your dress code is a black suit” kind of parties if you were doing PR.  Senator John McCain was speaking at the sit down dinner.  I was his celebrity handler.  He was very dignified.  I also met former head coach Jack Del Rio that evening as well.

To quote “Us Magazine”, “Stars are just like us”.  They make their own hair appointments, enjoy a nice dinner, relax and read a good book, and drop their kids off at school.  Even though I now spend my days in the classroom, to this day, I still carry a Sharpie in my purse.  Maybe in my next blog I will share the story about the time I was on live morning television dressed as a queen inspired by Disney’s Frozen and accidentally flashed Jacksonville viewers.  The camera man told me there were three or four minutes until the bump shot.

New York or Bust

Tartan Week has kicked off in New York City, and runs from April 2nd through April 9th.  To find a list of all the events, go to http://www.scotland.org/whats-on/scotland-week/.  I found a great article from the Daily Record, “Well plaid in Manhattan for New York’s annual Tartan Day Parade” by Katrina Tweedle. Read more at http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/travel/well-plaid-manhattan-new-yorks-7629486#QeCxqc4q68PVhU9q.99. The article is a great resource for those of us, like myself, planning to make the trip to New York for Tartan Week for the first time. I will fly from Florida to spend two glorious days and nights in the Big Apple.

This is my first “Outlander” event, and I want to make sure I’m prepared for the adventure.  I have been a fan of the television show since the first episode aired. Sam Heughan will be the Grand Marshal of the New York City Tartan Day Parade.

I feel honored to represent the Cooklander cookbook at New York Tartan Week.  Please look for our representatives throughout the week.  We will be one of the vendors at the Outlander Screening hosted by Outlanders United on Saturday.

What should I pack?

Checking the weather this morning, I discovered that on Saturday in New York City, the high will be 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Finding a coat and sweaters in stores in April in Florida has been quite a challenge.

Floridians

I have the T-Shirts covered, however, I am thinking I’ll  need to wear turtlenecks underneath. I’m trying to figure out how to wear my Heughan’s Heughligans, My Peak Challenge, Outlanders United, and Cooklander shirts in the space of two days.  I also have buttons to accessorize.  A Cooklander, My Peak Challenge, and ThePeakPosse button will adorn a plaid scarf.

IMG_5916 (2)

As I peruse Twitter and Facebook, a flask also seems to be a necessary item.  I’ll have to add that to my To-Do list.  I don’t have one yet.

One of my friends suggested bringing a back-up in case my phone battery dies.  I told her that was very smart thinking because I plan to take an abundance of pictures.

What should I do?

I have been to New York City one time, and spent one day walking all over the city doing touristy things; I visited the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and toured NBC Studios.  The parade is definitely on the agenda.  I am really looking forward to meeting friends and fans from all over the country.

I look forward to your suggestions for what to pack and what to do while I’m in the city.  Follow my travels @jennymcinspired on Twitter.

My Peak Challenge

Inspired by My Peak Challenge

***Updated 2/3/16***

I posted “Inspired by My Peak Challenge” originally in the early morning hours of February 1st EST.  Sam Heughan, Fight Camp, and Bear Strength Clothing Co. created the My Peak Challenge program to motivate individuals to reach their personal goals while at the same time raising money for Bloodwise.  I wish I had waited until the My Peak Challenge Prep Program went live to write this post.  Talk about inspiring!  Wow!  The amount of work that obviously went into creating this program is astounding!  It’s Day 3, there is still time to join if you have not already done so.  I may not go back to Titan Up Fitness.  Nah! I’m just kidding!  The MPC Prep Program complements what I’m doing at Titan Up Fitness, and my trainer says he’ll put on a kilt for Halloween.

February 1, 2016

I began blogging in October 2014.  After reading the first three books in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series and watching the first eight episodes of the television series, I was “inspired” to write.  More than a year later, I am still inspired.  I am inspired by Sam Heughan, Bear Strength Clothing Co., Fight Camp, The Box Magazine, and by all of the My Peak Challenge participants.

Personally, I am working on a more specific goal for the challenge.  I reread my posts from last year.  In January 2015, I wrote, My excuse has been that I don’t have time.  I think that as Moms we do tend to put ourselves last on the priority list.  A good friend of mine told me recently that if you give all of yourself away, you don’t have anything else to give to anyone.  With that thought in mind, I made a promise to myself to carve out time for exercise, to recharge.  I still need to carve out time for myself.  I joined a gym this year in Jacksonville Beach, Titan Up Fitness.  I need accountability.  So far, my goal is to “tighten up at Titan Up”.

I completed the first week of their 13 challenge on Saturday.  I attended Boot Camp.  At the end, one of the trainers asked me how I felt.  I said, “Good, it gave me ideas of areas to improve on.” She said, “Are you breathing heavy?”  I said, “Yes!”  She responded, “Then you did great!”  It struck me as I researched definitions of inspire that she was absolutely right.

Origin of inspire

Middle English, from Anglo-French & Latin; Anglo-French inspirer, from Latin inspirare, from in- + spirare to breathe

First Known Use: 14th century

I am so grateful to all the My Peak Challenge participants for inspiring me.  I am looking forward to the launch of the My Peak Challenge Prep Program February 1, 2016.  Thank you so much for reading!

My Peak Challenge 2016

Happy New Year!  I’m learning I should also wish readers a Happy Hogmanay! I am getting ready for My Peak Challenge 2016. I participated last year, and am very excited to set new goals for myself for 2016, physical and non-physical goals.

Sam Heughan, Fight Camp, and Bear Strength Clothing Co. created a program to motivate individuals to reach their personal goals while at the same time raising money for Bloodwise. The success of My Peak Challenge was overwhelming.

I went to http://www.mypeakchallenge.co.uk to register my interest to participate in My Peak Challenge 2016. My Peak Challenge launches in January, and I will receive an email alert to the email address I provided to web site when they’re ready to go.

Information for My Peak Challenge can be found on various social media platforms. #MyPeakChallenge is the dedicated hashtag.

Follow: @MyPeakChallenge @BearStrength @F1ghtCamp & of course, @SamHeughan on Twitter To reach YOUR peak.

Bear Strength tweeted that welcome packs will be available January 5, 2016 for pre-order. The web site, http://www.bearstrength.co.uk, is user friendly, and converts to your preferred currency. They ship to the United States, and internationally. I have had a wonderful experience every time I have ordered from the company.

When you order the welcome pack, you receive information, Peak Gear, photos and a % of your purchase goes to charity.  This is last year’s pack. The bears have tweeted there is a new shirt this year.

I am proud to be repping Bear Strength in Florida.  Through the miracle of Twitter, I met an Outlander Fan that lives in my neighborhood, so I have my workout buddy. You might find some of our FL adventures by following RiverCity Sassenachs @saltlifesassies.

I look forward to seeing and hearing from all of the #MyPeakChallenge participants!  Bear Strength, Fight Camp, and My Peak Challenge accounts  have teased bigger and better things for 2016.

I’ll just leave this tweet from The Box Magazine here.

To Be a Fan Girl, or a Cougar, or Go Shopping for a Billionaire, That is the Question…

*Spoiler Alert*

I am going to discuss the Shopping for a Billionaire series of books by Julia Kent and how they relate to Sam Heughan and Outlander.

I first blogged about these books in my post, https://inspiredbyoutlander.wordpress.com/2014/11/07/twitter-teslas-tartans-and-time-travel/

Here is an excerpt from that post:

I watched Outlander every week, and enjoyed every minute as the story unfolded.  As each show aired in the U.S., Sam started popping up on my Facebook news feed, Twitter, and Pinterest account.  When he appeared as a Pop Culture reference in a book I was reading on my Kindle as “Sam Heughan”, curiosity killed the cat so to speak.  The book is not related to Diana’s books in any way, and he is described in a most complementary fashion.

At this point, I’d like to expand on what I wrote in November. The book I referenced above was book 4 of the series. Sam also appears in book 1.

Book 4, however, was my motivation to Google Sam for the first time. I was minding my own business reading, as I do every day, when I came across this passage that even today I can’t bring myself to quote directly. My apologies to Julia Kent and to all of you dear readers.

“Power walk or ice cream. Power walk or ice cream. That’s like asking if you want to have ____ with Sam Heughan or just use your ________, Amy.”

I thought to myself, “Wait? What?” All I had ever seen of Sam at that point was his work in Outlander. In my head, he was “Jamie”. Of course, very attractive as Jamie. I stopped reading, and Googled “Sam Heughan”, 516,000 results came up in 20 seconds. Ahhh…my inner dialogue was in Shrek’s accent, “Hold the phone.”

I’ll pick back up here with my November post.

Naturally, I started following him on Twitter.  This begins the period I refer to as “the week I lost to the Twitterverse and the World Wide Web”. I spent more time on Twitter that week than all the combined time spent since I joined three years ago.  I was sucked into the Outlander fandom.  In my humble opinion, he is a social media genius.  I especially love the witty conversations between Sam Heughan and Diana Galbaldon.  Diana describes his fans on Twitter as, “taking the bait, hook, line, and sinker.”  We do.

I discovered Julia Kent’s Shopping for a Billionaire while browsing through the “Free Book” options on my Kindle. I saw the series categorized as Literature and Fiction, Humor and Satire, Romance and Romantic Comedy, Women’s Fiction, and Humor and Entertainment. In my opinion, it is intended for a mature audience. The books are very funny, the protagonist finds herself in many hilarious predicaments. I read all the time, and look for original stories to read. I would recommend reading these books, I’ve read the first four books in the series, and will leave a review on Kindle and iBooks as soon as I publish this post. In my research, I found two titles to add to my “to-read” list, Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire and Shopping for a Billionaire’s Fiancee. My impression is that this author is also a fan of the Outlander book series. Geillis Duncan gets a shout out too.

In my post, “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award”, https://wordpress.com/post/77250966/284/, I responded to ten questions regarding books. I also I posted this picture, and I think it is appropriate to post again. I pinned the picture on Pinterest via Misty Star.  It can be found on www.eatsleepreadlove.wordpress.com.

I’d like to share my response to question 4 because I feel it is applicable to this post as well.

How do you feel about eBooks?

I read books on my Kindle and “traditional” hardback and paperback copies. I think I have read more books because of the eBook format than I would have if I were reading only hand-held copies.  I could spend my whole paycheck on books. I have discovered new authors through the “Free Book” feature on Kindle.  However, I would like to offer some tips I’ve learned along the way as my Kindle is now a constant companion.

Pro Tip 1 – A Kindle Fire’s graphics are so much more detailed and prettier than the basic Kindle.  My husband received a Kindle Fire for his birthday one year, and I was happy with my original black and white version.  When I downloaded Accidentally Married…to a Vampire, by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, I honestly couldn’t see the thumbnail version of the picture on the cover.  My husband said, “What are you reading?” as he showed me a picture of a shirtless man who could be Fabio’s twin on his Kindle Fire.  Oops!

Pro Tip 2 – Do Not share a Kindle account with your husband.  Between vampires and grey silk ties, I answered the question, “What are you reading?” frequently.  Unfortunately, my husband’s device suffered an untimely death, not by my hands.  He chose not to replace his, and I am the proud owner of a Kindle Fire.

For some reason, I feel compelled to share that I also have Pride and Prejudice on my Kindle. Please read “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award” to see more of my favorite books. I am a huge fan of the Outlander book series and television show, a married mother of two who works part time in a preschool.  I’m a soccer mom who is involved in the PTA, and my daughter’s Girl Scout troop.

I don’t wish to have framed restraining orders as possible momentos of meeting anyone involved with Outlander.

I don’t have an area in my home like this dedicated to Sam Heughan. I respect him in a married woman kind of way, I promise!
